I have worked in the window covering business all my working life (16 years). My grandfather, Edgar Daugherty, opened a blind and drapery business in Austin in 1947. The business has stayed in the family for over 50 years. As a teenager, I worked in the factory making, repairing, and installing all types of blinds. Once I graduated from college, I started selling and managing full time. I worked there for about five years and then my entrepreneurial spirit called me to start my own business, which had long been a dream of mine. So on January 2nd, 2001, I opened the doors to Ripley's Blind & Drapery, L.L.C. We have been going strong ever since!

How often do you go shopping and need to get reliable advice from someone that works there? Do you get it; or did you reach someone that has no personal interest in helping you?

We fully understand that we are a SMALL BUSINESS. And due to this fact, we recognize that we have to work extra hard to separate ourselves from the competition. We also understand that we do not have the buying power of the bigger mass merchant/internet stores.

Everyone assumes that if you buy from the bigger conglomerates that you'll always get a better deal.

WRONG!!

Marketing is a wonderful thing. Some companies have the resources to spend a lot of money to lead you to believe that they will always have the lowest price -- not necessarily true.

We, here at Ripley's, do our homework. We consistently keep an eye on our competitors' prices. We also stay up with market trends. If we feel like we will be able to sell large quantities of a particular product, we invest money in our own factory. Currently we fabricate Wood Plantation Shutters and 2" Faux Wood Blinds. Even though we are a small business, you can buy FACTORY DIRECT. We also pride ourselves on carrying all the major brand products. So when it comes to covering a window, inside or outside, we're a one-stop-shop.
